The Plunge is the very first water ride at Aussie World and is part of a two million dollar plus investment and expansion program taking place. You’re guaranteed to get wet on this ride with not one, but two steep climbs and drop-offs! Riders climb aboard hollowed-out logs propelled by flowing water through a waterway before climbing upwards then plunging down a ramp at great speed – twice! Riders and spectators are treated to a water splashtacular created by the downhill momentum of the logs – an entertaining way to cool off on a hot Queensland day! Steve Irwin day is an international event celebrated each year on the 15th November in honour of the greatest Wildlife Warrior that ever lived. Steve Irwin.  The 2011 Australian Quad Motocross Championships are on this weekend, 1 – 2 October at the Coolum Pines MX track on the Sunshine Coast. This international sport will see riders travel from New Zealand and the USA to compete against our top -ranked Aussies many of which will travel interstate to compete.

Whale Watching from Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast
 Each year the humpback whales begin their seasonal migration from Antarctica up the East coast of Australia passing the beautiful Sunshine Coast in the winter months between June and October. These gentle giants of the ocean grow to appox 16 metres long, live to an age of 50, weigh up to 50 tons and cruise along at around 5-14 kph.
During the migration period the whales don’t eat, this time is purely for mating and breeding, once their calve is born in the warmer waters of the Great Barrier Reef around Cairns they head back down the coast again. The second part of the season when the whales are travelling South is when we have the best sightings on the Sunshine Coast. The reason for this is they travel in much shallower water on the return journey once their calves are born. They are also teaching their young all of the spectacular acrobatics that we love to watch such as breaching, spyhopping, lobtailing and spouting just to name a few.
